Our loose leaf menu at Shinka Tea focuses on classic Asian teas with a special emphasis on oolong tea. We offer a rotating selection of small batch oolongs sourced directly from Taiwan. From the toasty depth of Ti Kuan Yin to the sweet, floral grassiness of Four Springs, we've found oolong, when properly infused, to be one of the most accessible kinds of tea to new tea drinkers as well as a tea highly prized by aficionados.

In addition to oolongs, we also offer Indian estate teas including Assam, Ceylon and Darjeeling as well as Japanese favorites such as gyokuro (a must-try!), hojicha and genmaicha. You'll also find some surprising flavors on our menu such as Lapsang Souchong, a pine-smoked tea from China.

Delicious, naturally caffeine-free tisanes such as chamomile, peppermint, rooibos and lavender are featured as well.

We sell our loose leaf teas in bulk by the ounce or in-store by the pot. Our baristas are trained to prepare tea in pre-warmed teaware, using digital thermometers to control the water temperature to produce a perfect extraction. Water for black tea is always brought to a roiling boil, and if you order oolong or pu'erh your server will offer to pour off the first water for you. Gyokuro, our most delicate and refined green tea, is prepared using water from a dedicated heater that maintains temperature at exactly the 140 degrees required.

If you have time to wait (12 to 15 minutes) we can also prepare any of our loose leaf teas iced and shaken. Served in a giant, 24-ounce mug, loaded with ice and brimming with foam, you'll be amazed by the rich color, strength and character of any of our teas over ice - traditional teas like Ti Kuan Yin or pu'erh are as spectacular iced as they are hot.

Our teas are of much greater quality than ''teabag' or 'supermarket' tea, and do not need to be blended, flavored or sweetened to be enjoyed. We select and price our teas for everyday consumption by people who genuinely appreciate tea. While some high-end teas can fetch several hundred dollars a pound, our focus has been on excellent teas under $50 a pound: delicious, affordable teas suitable for drinking any time.

If you are interested in buying bulk tea, we will be happy to prepare small samples of any tea for you to try.
